Believe me the dollar will be dead by then if the rumours going around are true, I wasn't being cynical, though I've obviously ruffled a few feathers with my benign footnote.

Just Google the 'Amero', the new currency being planned for Mexico, the USA and Canada to replace the dollar that the political elite want to impose on Americans without their consent.

Could be bullshit I know, or it could be true, only time will tell.

i was able to plug it into an external monitor and the image was crystal clear. I am just worried that in time it will destroy my logic board. unfortunately i have just arrived in kenya yesterday, and i will be here for the next two months and i need my computer to do my work here.

I had the same problem with screen and at first thought it couldn't be the graphic card since my external monitor works fine. But after a few weeks, my computer went totally dead. Took it to Apple store and after some diagnostic tests, it turned out the graphic test failed, so that needed to be replaced along with logic board. You can't replace one without the other. So Nvidia graphic card is faulty and will damage your logic board if you don't have it fixed soon. Apple replaced mine for free due to faulty Nvidia graphic card even though my mbp is already out of warranty. Hope this helps.

update the drivers...if that fails to help anything it's almost 100% positive it is the GPU going bad (the video card). The problem is heat, macbooks in general have very poor air circulation, plus if playing high intensity games or any video rendering, your GPU, CPU, RAM, hard drive and mobo chipset will heat up. If they are constantly ran at very high temperatures, they are prone to a much shorter life span and quick failures without much warning. If anything, apple will simply replace the video card, but knowing them, they'll charge you out the a** for it

Another trick is to take a screen shot (Command-Shift-3). If the artifacts appear in the PNG file, then it's an issue with the video hardware on the motherboard and not the display.

Depending on the MacBook Pro model, one might be able to switch between video chips. For instance, in my MacBook Pro, I have both an NVIDIA GeForce 9400M and 9600M GT. One can switch between them in 'System Preferences' > 'Energy Saver' > 'Graphics:'. It might be interesting to see if only one has an issue.

I suspect either overheating (blow that dirty thing out with canned air) or a hardware failure that can be diagnosed with the hardware test CD or at an Apple Store.

Well, I can tell you how I'd troubleshoot it.

Boot it off a working restore of OSX to see if there's a software problem.

Connect it to an external display, and see if that has the same problems.

If an external display works, look into replacing the laptop's LCD.

If an external display doesn't work, it's probably either the CPU or the RAM. Run the hardware test that came with it, or download one off the Internet and burn it to a CD. Swap out the RAM, if possible, to see if there's any difference.

I'd fear it is the mobo or the CPU, though, particularly if it's freezing.
